In my last post , I talked about how modern technology has made our lives easier, but has also reduced the amount of movement we do on a daily basis and the likely link to the current obesity epidemic.
I recommended that the golden rule is to exercise one hour a day to gain the maximum benefits of exercise. It is extremely hard to lose weight without adding exercise. The best strategy is to eat a healthy diet, like the Chocolate Diet, and to exercise daily to insure more calories are burned each day.
The National Weight Control Registry (NWCR) was setup in 1994 and it is tracks individuals who have shed 30 pounds or more and maintained their new body weight for over a year. Through scientific-based surveys, they have discovered the following facts:
94% of the participants who lost 30 pounds increased their physical activity level while losing the weight and the most common form of exercise reported was walking.
90% of the people who have kept the weight off for over one year continue to exercise 1 hour per day, every day.
The evidence is fairly clear. Increased exercised is almost a requirement for weight loss. And continual exercise for about an hour a day is required to maintain that new body weight.
Besides helping with weight loss and increasing physical fitness, new research has shown that exercise has mental and psychological benefits as well. Overall, the exercise mantra ‘One Hour Per Day’ is what I recommend you adopt in your own life as well.
