Corn, as a whole grain, can be a healthy component of a plant-based diet; nevertheless, I recommend against consuming any HFCS. Since this sweetener is not found naturally, it is easy to avoid high fructose corn syrup by not eating any fast food or processed foods.
Large food companies use HFCS because it is cheaper than sugar. However, these foods are designed to make a profit for the corporation, not enhance the health of the consumer. Since some research is suggesting that HFCS is worse for you than regular sugar and it clearly does contribute to obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, I suggest avoiding any food that contains HFCS. No recommended foods on the Chocolate Diet or any program at Nutrition Coach contain high fructose corn syrup.
